What's Happening in the 757
Here are 6 things to do in the 757 this week:
Today
🎸 Hair Metal Sunday: Glam-metal satirists Steel Panther hit The Norva in Norfolk tonight at 7:30 PM. The stage show is absurd, the musicianship is genuinely tight, and it's exactly the kind of loud, ridiculous Sunday closer you didn't know you needed. Get in
This Week
⚾ Harbor Park Homestand: The Norfolk Tides open a multi-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp starting Tuesday, April 7 at 6:35 PM, with games running through Saturday. Spring baseball with the Elizabeth River as your backdrop is a 757 rite of passage -- lawn seats make it the best cheap outing of the week. Grab tickets
🎸 Zakk Wylde Double Threat: Zakk Wylde brings Black Label Society AND his Black Sabbath tribute project Zakk Sabbath to The Norva in Norfolk on Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 PM. That's two headlining acts for one ticket price -- a rare double-header for hard rock fans in the 757. Seats here
🤠 Alt-Country Thursday: Dallas legends the Old 97's play Elevation 27 in Virginia Beach on Thursday, April 9 at 8 PM. Thirty-plus years of rowdy, hook-driven country-rock and they still bring it live. They don't come through the 757 often -- if you know, you know. Grab tickets
This Weekend
🌿 Harrison Opera House Throwback: "Fire & Rain: Folk Anthems of the 70s" comes to the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk on Friday, April 10 at 7:30 PM -- a live celebration of James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and the whole singer-songwriter era. This is the show that'll make you drag your friends somewhere they'll actually thank you for. More info
🎸 Peninsula Singer-Songwriter Night: Folk and Americana artist Susan Werner plays the American Theatre in Hampton on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 PM. Witty, genre-bending, critically acclaimed -- the American Theatre is one of the Peninsula's best intimate venues, and Werner is the kind of artist worth catching. Get tickets
🏓 Jam Band Saturday: Psychedelic funk-jam band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brings their dance-floor-destroying live show to The Norva in Norfolk on Saturday, April 11 at 7 PM, with Dale and the Zdubs opening. PPPP shows are basically a party with a band attached -- if you want to dance your Saturday night away, this is the move. Grab tickets

Broadway Comes to Norfolk -- Tonight Only
The touring production of Mrs. Doubtfire plays Chrysler Hall in downtown Norfolk tonight at 6:30 PM. This is a full Broadway touring show -- not a regional production, not a school performance -- and locals have been buzzing about it all week. If you've been sleeping on the Chrysler Hall season, this is the one that'll wake you up.
Tonight is the only shot to catch it in the 757. A Broadway touring production at this caliber landing in your backyard doesn't happen every weekend -- and Chrysler Hall is a genuinely great room to see it in. Tickets here

⛈️ Storm Warning Sunday: Hampton Roads woke up mild and windy with temps in the 70s, but thunderstorms are expected to roll in after noon today. If you've got outdoor plans, front-load your morning and check the radar before you head out -- this one could sneak up on you. Full forecast
🤝 Portsmouth Kids Win: More than 1,000 Portsmouth children are in mentorship and enrichment programs this week as part of the city's annual Peace Week spring break initiative. It's designed to keep young people safe and engaged during the break -- and a thousand kids in programs is exactly the kind of community investment worth paying attention to. Full story
🪵 Ron Swanson Is Coming: Nick Offerman brings his "Big Woodchuck" stand-up tour to Sandler Center in Virginia Beach on Friday, April 10, with shows at 7 PM and 9:30 PM. Dry, deadpan, deeply weird -- Offerman rarely tours small markets, so two shows at Sandler means he's actually coming to you, not Richmond or DC. Snag seats
🎹 Legend Lands in VB: John Legend performs at Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach on Thursday, April 9 at 8 PM. Sandler holds about 1,300 people -- seeing an artist of his caliber this close is a genuinely rare opportunity in the 757. Get in
🚨 Prentis Park Shooting: Portsmouth Police responded to a shooting in the 2400 block of Chestnut Street in the Prentis Park neighborhood, where they found one man with a gunshot wound. The investigation is ongoing -- if you're in or near the area, stay aware. The details
